TRAVEL Bolingbrook, IL - Oklahoma City, OK
What a stressful morning!  After getting a ride to the airport with my neighbor, Leeanne, queued up to get my E-ticket and was surprised with a "Proceed immediately to gate" message on the self-ticketing computer system. I pulled out a printed copy of my itinerary and realized I had REALLY messed up: my flight to Oklahoma City arrives THERE at 10:30 am, but I though I would be leaving Chicago at 10 am!

In a total panic --- I've never missed a flight before! --- I worked hurriedly with the bagage and ticket people at United to book another flight. The next flight with an open seat would not leave until 3pm, meaning I'd lost 7 hours, and would be stranding Jerri at the OKC airport for HOURS!

My panic grew as I realized that I did not have her phone number with me.  It was still in the computer at work (and my cell phone, which I chose to leave at home for this trip). GEEZ! I really messed up.  My vacation was off to a terrible start. I talked to the lady at the traveler's aid office, hoping to figure out some way to contact Jerri to let her know I would be late, but without her flight number, airline, or other information (all forgotten in my panicked state), I did not have any way to reach her.

Then the miracle!  Though I'm not a 'Bible-thumper', I am a Christian, so I believe in miracles.  Witness the miracle: my original flight was delayed and taking standby passengers. I went on standby for my own original seat, and I was able to get aboard.  As I started to calm down, settling in my seat, I heard my name called.  "Are they taking me off the plane?" I wondered. No. As it turns out, they wanted to be sure I was on the plane because they wer moving my luggage from the 3pm flight to this one. HALLELUJAH! "Never forgot who's in charge of the universe," I scolded myself.

I am so looking forward to seeing Jerri.  We have so much to talkabout, and we are both looking forward to an escape from our respect 'publics': her from the hoardes at here speaking engagements and book signings and me from the software team whose machines I keep alive and running smoothly.

NOTE: TWC's Weekly Planner maps only cover a seven-day span. The l0-day forecast maps (at left) are used to fill in the 5/30, 5/31 map series.

These long-range forecasts often change (and I hope to see stormier weather than predicts. Selfish, eh?)
